A Saugeen Township couple are the 2011 winners of the Municipal Heritage Conservation Award.
John and Marion McDermid received their award at a recent Saugeen Shores council meeting.
The award is presented in recognition of heritage-minded individuals who are involved in heritage by protecting original buildings, surroundings or through educating others.
In this case, the McDermid’s recaptured the original magnificence of their farm home through restoration and renovations over the past 17-years.
The McDermid home, on Concession 8 of Saugeen Township, was originally built in 1899 at a cost of one thousand dollars.
Thousands and thousands of dollars have since gone into re-doing the home while expanding it both inside and out.
The McDermid’s did a lot of the work themselves and Marion said it was their biggest challenge other than raising their three kids.
The award was presented by the Saugeen Shores Municipal Heritage Committee.
