The Medical Officer of Health for Grey Bruce claims services should be better, once changes are fully implemented at the Walkerton health unit office.
Doctor Hazel Lynn says those changes will see workers out in the community, rather than sitting behind a desk all day.
Doctor Lynn appeared before Bruce County Council on Thursday to offer an explanation about the downsizing.
She says they had a plan for implementing the changes, but it was thrown off-track by a disgruntled employee who went to the media claiming the office was closed.
Doctor Lynn says the main difference in Walkerton is there is no receptionist anymore, but she says you always had to make an appointment to get whatever service you require.
The MOH says with these changes they need less space and she wants to renegotiate the current lease with the county.
Currently, the Health Unit has a lease until 2024 that costs 57 thousand dollars a year for the 33 hundred square foot office space.
Less than 20 employees work out of the Walkerton office and Doctor Lynn says they will be spending more time in the field now.
