Eighteen local food banks are getting a 78 thousand dollar boost from Bruce Power this holiday season.
The Tiverton nuclear company is donating 65 thousand dollars to local food banks from Thornbury to Paisley to Tobermory.
Another 13 thousand dollars will be given for Christmas Hamper programs, and hundreds of toys have been collected in an employee toy drive.
Some of the hamper programs include Mwikewedong Native Centre, the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Saugeen First Nations, Bruce County Social Services, and the Bruce Children are Special Foundation.
President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne says Bruce Power recognizes how difficult it is for the non-profit organizations to keep their shelves stocked, because there are so many people in our region in need.
The food banks receiving cash are located in Thornbury, Flesherton, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Durham, Goderich, Meaford, Hanover, Immanuel Paisley, Kincardine, Lion’s Head, Markdale, Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Saugeen First Nation, Tobermory, Walkerton, and Wiarton.
Local Christmas Hamper programs benefiting from the generosity of Bruce Power employees include those in Chesley, Paisley, Kincardine, Ripley, and Tiverton, as well as Bruce County Ontario Works, Bruce County Social Services, the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey, and the Port Elgin Salvation Army.
