Two bridges are now closed for the winter in Chatsworth and one may never re-open.
Mayor Bob Pringle says money is the problem right now.
He says Chatsworth has 49 bridges, and the aging infrastructure could put a heavy burden on taxpayers in the next few years.
Pringle says 16 of the 49 bridges need to be assessed next year, although he doubts any will have to be closed.
The two that are closed now are a steel bridge on Side Road 3 in the former Sullivan township, and on Side Road 1 between Concession 7A and Concession 6.
In both cases, plows and buses have found alternate routes and few residents are affected.
Pringle says the steel bridge could cost a million dollars to replace and with a budget of only 5.5 million the municipality, that would be a major hit for taxpayers.
The Chatsworth Mayor says his municipality isn’t allow with the problem, and it is tough to get money out of Queens Park to address the aging infrastructure issue.
Pringle says they need to start putting money into a reserve fund, for future bridge repairs and upgrades.
