Municipalities have no say in what they are charged for annual policing cost if they are under OPP contract.
But — now they can feel confident the most up-to-date figures will be used in that calculation.
Chris Lewis — the OPP Commissioner, has advised Ontario’s towns and cities that Treasury Board has authorized the costing formula to be updated on a yearly basis.
Previously the formula had been reviewed once every two years.
Commissioner Lewis says the change will more accurately reflect current charges for OPP service, which he maintains, remain competitive with municipalities which operate their own policing service.
