You may notice some co-workers or friends getting sick.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says there has been an increase in the number of people with Norovirus like symptoms..
The main symptoms begin about 24 to 48 hours after exposure and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
Officials say the illness usually lasts from one day to three days.
Although often called the “stomach flu”, it is not caused by influenza viruses.
Norovirus is spread easily from person to person or through exposure to food, water or surfaces contaminated by an infected person.
Usually, there are outbreaks in nursing homes, hospitals, banquet halls and restaurants where people are in close proximity to each other.
If you think you have norovirus and to help prevent others from getting sick:
Wash your hands using soap and water, especially after using the toilet, changing diapers and before eating or preparing food. If water is not available, a waterless hand rinse can be used.
Drink lots of fluids.
Stay home if you are vomiting and have diarrhea.
Do not prepare or handle food that will be eaten by others.
See a doctor if your symptoms last longer than three days or you have bloody diarrhoea or a high fever.
