Unit 5 at the Bruce nuclear generating station in Tiverton is producing power again.
Bruce Power returned the unit to service on Saturday — 43 days after it was taken offline for a planned maintenance outage.
Bruce Power says it invested 90 million dollars in the unit during the outage, and added about 700 contractors to the workforce at its peak.
Executive Vice President Ken Ellis says the extra workers also boosted the local economy — by spending time in hotels, restaurants and stores.
Officials say many components of the plant were inspected, overhauled or replaced and all systems underwent complete testing to assure safe and reliable performance.
