Some disappointing news for both the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board and the Bluewater public school board.
The French Catholic Board Consortium is opting out of the shared transportation consortium at the end of the school year.
Next September — over 100 French Catholic School Board students that attend St. Dominique Savio in Owen Sound will no longer use the shared bus system.
Instead — those students will use Franco Bus Services, a decision by the French Catholic Board to standardize their transportation services under one company.
Catholic Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says the loss of the students will have a negative impact on their budget.
The transportation consortium will review its costs and see if it will impact bus routes for next year.
Colton says there is time to prepare for the transition and seek out cost saving strategies to help mitigate the lost bus revenue.
French Board spokesperson Carolyn Miljan says the decision to leave the consortium was not an easy one.
Miljan says the French Board has enjoyed a very good working relationship with the two school boards — but she adds it was time to go in another direction.
St. Dominique Savio boasts 164 students in total.
