The Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce plans a full agenda when the Legislature gets to work.
Lisa Thompson is among a number of rural Tory rookie MPs heading to Queen’s Park today and tomorrow.
She says she’ll be asking for a full accounting of what her party views as a lack of transparency in the Walkerton Jail closure issue.
Thompson has filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act to get costing information from the Ministry of Corrections.
She says the McGuinty government’s Green Energy Act is a priority.
Thompson believes the Liberals are wrong in taking away the rights of municipalities to decide where wind developments should be located.
The Tories will also press for a moratorium on wind energy so that health and environmental studies can be done without government pressure.
Thompson believes it’s important that rural communities be heard in the Legislature.
She says non-urban residents lost their voices when the Liberals held a majority in the House and it’s time that changed.
Thompson also wants to put a hold on closing the Walkerton Jail.
She points out that the McGuinty government hasn’t consulted with residents on the December 4th closure which she wants put on hold.
