Hanover has just struck a new reciprocal agreement with the Bluewater District School Board which promises to promote physical activity among young people.
Under the agreement both parties can utilize each other’s facilities and lands at no cost to one another.
This includes the use of classrooms, gymnasiums, athletic fields, ball diamonds and arenas.
Hanover Director of Parks and Recreation Sherri Walden calls it a win-win for all involved.
She says Hanover can utilize the school board’s local gymnasiums and classrooms and in turn the school board can take advantage of the town’s ball diamonds or soccer fields.
For example, she says Hanover will hold its sports camp in the John Diefenbaker Secondary School gym during the summer, and in turn students from Dawnview Public and JDSS will receive free use of the ice surface in the arena for skating and broom ball Phys. Ed lessons.
This new agreement updates a previous one that expired in 2005.
Walden calls it a wonderful partnership that promotes physical activity amongst our children and youth.
She says it makes good sense for the town and the school board to work together to promote a healthy community.
