The Salvation Army Food Bank in Owen Sound is kicking off a couple of annual Christmas drives.
The Red Kettle Campaign was launched with Mayor Deb Haswell earlier this week and the first kettle will go out on Saturday following the Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade in Owen Sound.
Salvation Army spokesperson Alice Wannan says even though they’re getting a lot of help from winning the Kraft Canada Food for Families contest this year, the Red Kettle Campaign is what gets them through the year.
Wannan says the target this year is 80 thousand dollars — the same as last year’s goal.
She says a couple of snow days last year slowed the drive, but eventually everyone pulled through to hit the target.
All of the money goes back into the local food bank.
During the Santa Claus Parade — Owen Sound Firefighters will be collecting cans of apple juice for the food bank.
Wannan says they hope to collect 12 hundred cans to include in this year’s Christmas hampers.
