Festival of Northern Lights Incorporated Board President Doug McKee will launch the 24th season on the steps of Owen Sound city hall today.
He will accept a cheque for three thousand dollars from Bruce Powers’ Corporate Affairs Communications Specialist, Melanie Cooper.
As well, McKee will outline some of the changes in the Festival this year at the news conference at 2 PM.
This is the first year that the Festival of Northern Lights has been run as an arms length organization.
City council agreed to give the Festival board 75 thousand dollars this year, as the first year of a five year agreement.
Northern Lights Coordinator, Keira McArthur says the overall budget is 150 thousand dollars and they are close to reaching that total thanks to a 10 thousand dollar grant from the province, and local fund raising.
Next year, 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the festival of northern lights in Owen Sound and McArthur says they will be applying for money from Queens Park thru the Trillium Foundation.
