Major renovations to the Emergency Department at Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton likely won’t begin until the Spring of 2013 but a minor reno in the lab department should be done by the end of this year.
President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services Maureen Solecki tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the lab space will undergo about 60 thousand dollars worth of renos that will result in extra room for patients and for staff
Solecki says anyone who has gone for blood work in Southampton is familiar with the overcrowding in the small waiting room, particularly first thing in the morning.
The work should help ease that situation.
Meanwhile Solecki says they’ve had their first meeting with the capital branch of the Ministry of Health on the major renovation to the ER department in Southampton.
She says the ball is back in their court as they work on the final construction plans.
Solecki says some of the questions to be answered include, what’s the best size; what’s the best layout and how best do they accommodate the expansion of the lab, along with the major expansion of the Emergency Room.
She says improvements are also underway to the registration and triage process for the emergency department.
She says the bottom line is that all of it must better serve the patients of the Saugeen Shores area.
The cost, according to small capital projects fund guidelines, must be under 10-million dollars but no exact amount has been given yet.
