Grey and Bruce counties are getting 4.5 million dollars for affordable housing under a new federal-provincial plan announced this week at Queens Park.
Grey County gets the lions-share at nearly 2.7 million dollars.
Bruce County will get 1.8 million to provide new or renovated affordable housing.
In a news release from Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, the province says some of the money can also be spent on rent subsidies, shelter allowances or home ownership assistance.
Walker says he has seen the November breakdowns for Bruce County and is pleased the money is flowing in to help ease the demand.
Walker says with the housing market being so volatile, its very important that we ensure people have access to affordable housing in our area.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller agrees, saying this new framework is an important step in helping Canadians in need find a stable, safe and affordable place to call home.
He says the funding to Bruce and Grey counties will assist in the development and implementation of housing solutions that are tailored to the needs of our local community.
