Fundraising for the Around the Sound food market is just about wrapped up.
About six thousand dollars has been raised by on-line donations, and collections at Trophies Two and the Georgian Gallery in downtown Owen Sound.
Donations are being accepted until November 10th — and Around the Sound owner, Anne Finlay-Stewart is pleased by the generousity of residents.
The goal was 10 thousand dollars to help pay for expenses not covered after a fire destroyed the business in the spring.
Meanwhile, Finlay-Stewart says her plan to have the store re-open downtown in December has run into a roadblock.
She tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that council has put a limit on Grocery stores in the city and her store would fall into that category.
Finlay-Steward says finances and an appropriately zoned, affordable location stand in the way of a revival of the popular local food store at which over 130 local people sold their products.
Despite the road-block, she remains optimistic something will work out in the near future and Around the Sound will find a new location in Owen Sound.
The city set a deadline of October 28th for the old building on 6th street east to be demolished.
That hasn’t happened and city officials plan to have it demolished soon with the cost added to the property owners’ tax bill.
