The Goderich Business Improvement Area reached back to its list of impressive and inspiring guest speakers for a reprise engagement by George Dark.
Dark is an award-winning landscape architect based in Toronto who first addressed the BIA’s annual meeting in 2005.
Dark is familiar with Goderich — his family spends four months every year at their summer home near town.
He was here when the tornado struck August 21st.
The celebrated designer Thursday met with the media prior to addressing the BIA gathering at the Livery.
Dark says that while the tornado is an admittedly tragic event, it is over.
He says Goderich should explore its potential as the gateway from the rest of the province to Ontario’s West Coast and Lake Huron.
Dark maintains that one community we can emulate going forward might be Picton.
He says reconstructing the past isn’t necessarily the way forward.
Dark believes now is the opportunity to ask what sort of redevelopment we would like to see– and groups like the BIA and Chamber of Commerce should take the initiative in pressuring government in that direction.
