With Remembrance Day around the corner, Grey Roots Museum and Archives just outside of Owen Sound is opening a new exhibit today.
The Lost Regiments of Grey County explores the early military history of the area.
Heritage Interpretation Supervisor Petal Furness says the exhibit begins with stories and artifacts from 1861 right through to the end of World War I in 1919.
She says there were quite a few skirmishes around the world, and the military history of Grey County’s involvement is rich.
Furness says there has been much local interest in putting together an exhibit like this, and it’s taken a few years to get it all together.
She says they’ve had a lot of help from George Auer at the Meaford Land Force Central Area Training Centre and from the Simcoe-Grey Foresters.
Furness says the artifacts that are displayed and the stories attached to them are what draws her to the exhibit.
The opening ceremonies for the exhibit begin at 2 PM.
It will run until May the 9th.
