Money talks, even when it comes to policing services.
As a result, it’s expected Arran Elderslie will continue with the policing services they have now from the OPP on a pay per use basis.
Mayor Paul Eagleson says they also looked at a contract system with the OPP but council was told that would cost over 100 thousand dollars more than they’re paying now.
Eagleson says they did consider contracting from the Saugeen Shores Police Services but didn’t pursue the idea much past meeting with representatives of the force.
The mayor said no official decision will be made until the November 14th council meeting but his gut-feel is they’ll stay with exactly what they have now.
Eagleson says he has talked to Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett, thanking him for his part in exploring the use of their force, but it’s not the route Arran Elderslie is going to go.
Eagleson says they were looking at alternative policing to help cut costs.
Last year the municipality spent over one million dollars for policing by the OPP.
