A Kincardine councillor is asking that any application for a renewable energy project in the municipality come to council to review, before a building permit is issued.
Ron Coristine says it would be council’s job to review the applications with reference to Kincardine’s Wind Generation System Development Policy.
Most councillors agreed with the concept however some didn’t.
Councillor Maureen Couture says her concern is the motion is tied to an issuance of a building permit.
She says council has already dealt with this issue earlier in the term and council decided not to ban building permits that met the qualifications for the project at hand.
Councillor Ken Craig agreed saying this is an area where he urges council not to go.
Coristine says he realizes the fear that his motion is overstepping the line with the Chief Building Official.
However, Coristine says it’s ultimately council’s responsibility to look after the well-being of its citizens.
As for the town’s Chief Building Official — Michele Barr says if an application came to her that did not meet the guidelines set out by the municipality, she would bring it to council’s attention anyway.
