Georgian Bluffs’ new top administrator is settling into the job.
Murray Hackett was named the township’s Chief Administrative Officer three weeks ago.
It’s sort of a homecoming for Hackett, who is originally from nearby Port Elgin, but has yet to work in this part of the province.
For the past eight years, Hackett was CAO and clerk in Montague Township in Lanark County.
Prior to that he worked in Pelham in the Niagara Region, and Smith Township in Peterborough County.
Hackett says he and his wife wanted to be closer to his elderly mother-in-law, who still lives in the area.
He says he believes Georgian Bluffs is a progressive municipality and one where he feels he can make a difference as it continues to grow.
In his few short weeks of work, Hackett says he’s noticed a significant amount of cooperation between local municipalities, as they seek new ways to generate revenue and update infrastructure.
It’s the kind of thing he feels they need to keep doing moving forward, because it’s an effective way of providing good services for ratepayers.
Hackett has a four-year contract with Georgian Bluffs, after which time he will be considering retirement.
