There is a new agreement between the Bluewater District School Board and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Board of Education.
The two sides met in Council Chambers at the Band Office on Thursday in Cape Croker to sign the Education Services Agreement.
The agreement outlines several important issues, including ensuring eligibility for First Nation pupils to enrol at Bluewater Schools.
It also ensures equal opportunity for First nation students, and First Nation representation on Bluewater advisory committees.
By signing, both partners also agree to establish a Special Education Advisory Circle to support and advise all parties regarding students with special education needs.
Bluewater Director of Education John Bryant says renewing the agreement between the two boards is vital to maintain dialogue and collaboration to better serve the educational needs of students.
He says it also helps to foster an inclusive and diverse cultural learning environment.
