Canada’s Governor-General has awarded a Kincardine couple for their bravery during a fire.
The Right Honourable David Johnston presented Sharon and Tim Rider with the Decoration of Bravery during a ceremony last week at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
On May 3rd of 2009, a woman was working in a Port Elgin sporting goods store, when a spark set her workstation ablaze.
Her colleague, James Thede, tried to put out the fire out on her body before dealing with the growing blaze in the store.
He has also been recognized for his bravery, but was not present at the recent ceremony.
The Riders entered the store as it was happening, and Sharon ran to take care of the victim, while her husband Tim started putting out the flames in the back of the store.
The trio was informed they would receive the Decoration of Bravery this past June.
