The Hanover Fire Department is losing one of its top members.
Deputy Fire Chief Terry McDonald will soon be hanging up his fire hat for good.
After three decades as a firefighter — 27 of those years spent on the Hanover Fire Department — McDonald will be retiring as of December 1st.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says Hanover owes McDonald a great debt of gratitude.
Maskell says he has been a exemplary Deputy Fire Chief and will be sorely missed.
That being said, Maskell says McDonald has certainly put in his time and deserves a happy retirement.
McDonald began his volunteer firefighting career in Chatsworth and then came to Hanover in 1984.
McDonald has served as Hanover’s deputy fire chief for the last eight years.
Before that he held a number of different titles including pump operator and captain.
He has also received all of the provincial firefighter medals that recognize his years of service.
No decision yet as to who will replace McDonald as Hanover is currently reviewing its options.
