The little ghosts and ghouls will be taking over our streets tonight.
It is Hallowe’en, and trick or treaters will be going door-to-door in a never-ending hunt for sugary confections.
OPP Constable Dave Meyer wants to make sure everybody has a safe and happy Hallowe’en, so he’s asking motorists to be extra cautious on the roads, especially in urban areas.
When it comes to the costumes, he also advises kids to make sure they are visible, with either bright colours or reflective tape.
Meyer says you should also make sure your costume is not so long you’ll trip, and that it is flame-retardent.
He says make-up is usually a better option than masks, so that you can see everything properly.
It’s also important to plan a route, and make sure you’re not criss-crossing the streets to collect your candy.
And if kids are old enough to be going out without mom or dad tonight, Meyer tells parents to make sure they know where the kids will be going, what time they expect to finish, and to have some contact numbers for other parents.
Meyer has one more important rule — make sure your parents check your treat bag before you tear into the sweets.
He says parents should look for any signs of candy that has been tampered with before the kids pig out — and wake up with sore tummies tomorrow.
