On November 1st, Chesley Hospital is opening a Restorative Care Unit.
The President and CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre Paul Davies says the unit will have 10-beds.
Davies says in laymen’s terms it’s a rehab unit for individuals who are elderly.
He says many people are forced to go to a long-term care facility because they don’t have the support at home and are incapable of living on their own.
Davies says Restorative Care would be an additional step between the hospital and long term care or the patient’s home.
He says patients will get extra time and extra services to get them to the point that they can return home with the support of Community Care Access Centres.
Patients will be able to stay in the special unit for up to 40-days after which a decision will have to be made on further living accommodations.
Davies says the first year funding for the program is being provided by the Local Health Integration Network.
