The Hanover and District Hospital has reached the mid point of its fiscal year.
And numbers look good.
Half way into the fiscal year — the Hanover and District Hospital is boasting a 443 thousand dollar surplus.
CEO Katrina Wilson says fewer patients with shorter stays have contributed to the surplus.
Patient days have declined by 16 per cent and the average length of stay has decreased from 7.5 days to six days.
Low patient census means less staffing — which turns into a budget savings.
Less patients has also resulted in fewer drug and supply costs to the hospital.
While in-patient numbers are dropping, surgical visits are up 8 per cent.
Wilson says the Hospital is trying to grow its surgery program to increase the number of day surgeries they perform.
