South Bruce Peninsula councillor Janice Jackson has presented council with a notice of motion, saying the town is in contravention of its budget bylaw.
Mayor John Close says Jackson’s concern comes from a resolution passed by town council, that says budget deliberations will start on Tuesday, November 1st.
However an earlier policy indicated that budget discussions should have begun by October 15th.
Close admits they are behind but they’re dealing with the fact they have no Public Works Manager.
As a result, other staff are helping pitch in to create that department’s budget and it’s slowed down the process.
That’s why the budget meetings won’t start until November 1st.
Nevertheless, Close says, he hopes the budget process is completed before the end of the year.
