The Grey Bruce Health Unit is looking for partners to offer a six week after school program for girls in the 10 to 13 year old age group.
The Cherish program is designed to help girls develop good life skills.
The program includes cooking classes, physical activity such as yoga as well as sessions on bullying, internet safety and other relevant topics.
Program Manager Angela Newman says they decided to target girls between Grade 5 and 8 because there are not a lot of after school programs offered to this demographic.
She says the program was a huge success at Chepstow’s Mary Immaculate School this past year and the Health Unit wants to build upon this momentum.
But before they can, they need partners to come forward who would be willing to offer the program.
Newman says municipalities, school boards and community groups would make ideal partners.
The Health Unit will apply for Ministry dollars to cover the program cost, but Newman says they need partners to voice their interest as part of the application process.
She adds the program can be modified to include boys.
Newman says the main goal is to get youth active in their communities.
