Rental rates for the new gymnasium at the expanded Davidson Centre have been approved by council.
Councillor Ken Craig says the rates have been increased from what the committee had originally proposed but are still reasonable and comparable to other areas.
Craig says daytime use of the full gym will cost 43 dollars an hour and that increases to 54 dollars an hour evenings and weekends.
Rates are reduced if only a portion of the gym is used.
Craig told councillors it’s estimated there will be 70 thousand dollars worth of revenue generated, leaving a planned deficit of 20 thousand dollarsfor 2012.
With the old rates, that deficit would have been 40 thousand dollars.
A bylaw with the new rental rates will be back before council for approval on November 2nd.
Meanwhile, Craig says everything is on schedule to have the four-million-dollar expansion work at the Davidson Centre completed by the end of October.
He said on his last walking tour, crews were finishing the floor of the gym, the walking track was being installed, along with flooring in change rooms and some last minute painting was being completed.
