About 60 Grade 5 and 6 students have visited the Hanover Civic Centre this week for a crash course in municipal politics 101.
Mayor Kathi Maskell feels it’s a lesson the students will not soon forget.
Each Department Head spent about an hour with students explaining their work.
Maskell says it was refreshing to see so many eager young faces soak in the information and ask questions.
She feels the local level of politics has the biggest impact on youth every day — from roads to police and fire protection.
Maskell says it’s up to parents, educators and community leaders to nurture their interest.
Maskell encourages young people to take an interest in their local government by attending a Council meeting.
