Ladies are being pampered today in an effort to fight breast cancer.
The third annual Pretty in Pink Gala and luncheon takes place at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre in Port Elgin, beginning at 11 AM.
Breast cancer survivor Sylvia Sheard came up with the idea in 2009 for a day of fun, friendship, food and fashion and has raised 30 thousand dollars with the event since then.
The day includes a luncheon, fashion show, and silent auction, and the ladies are waited on hand and foot by the Pretty Boys.
Last year, Sheard decided to start a 5K fun run the weekend before the gala event.
Despite this past weekend’s strong winds and rains, the 2nd annual Pretty in Pink 5K Your Way shattered last year’s fundraising total of eight thousand dollars — bringing in 21 thousand dollars.
One baseball team alone raised 10 thousand dollars, after finding out a teammate’s wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
All of the proceeds from this year’s gala and fun run are going to stay local.
The money will be donated to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation for the new digital mammography units at the Owen Sound Hospital.
