The Grey Bruce Health Unit and Brockton are teaming up.
Our Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn says this new partnership will make a positive impact on community development.
The Health Unit will provide input on planning issues as well as the creation of Brockton’s Strategic Plan.
The goal is to increase the awareness on the health impact of municipal policy and decision making.
Doctor Lynn says there are so many ways to do this.
She notes if there are more walking paths and sidewalks in the community — then more people will walk.
Other ideas from Doctor Lynn include bike paths and placing parking lots further way from buildings to force people to walk a little further.
Doctor Lynn says people in the cities are healthier than their rural counterpart because they walk more, something this region needs to promote.
Brockton’s Recreation Director will now serve as a liaison between the Health Unit and the municipality.
This new partnership may be very well be the beginning of a new trend for community development in the region.
