The Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound is now over 75 per cent complete.
Members of the media had the chance to tour the facility on Thursday.
Head Architect Duff Balmer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are on track for an early spring completion.
The 39 million dollar facility boasts two full sized NHL rinks, a pair of pools, a walking and running track, a gymnasium, conditioning and weight rooms and more.
Balmer says the vision for the project is to build an inclusive facility that brings the entire community together.
Balmer notes they have also found a number of innovative ways to conserve resources and make the project more sustainable.
For example, Balmer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have found a way to re-direct waste heat from the arena to other parts of the building.
Balmer adds they are using strategically placed windows to get the most natural light possible, they use little to no irrigation for the landscaping…and are installing energy efficient light fixtures.
The company behind the design of the Rec Centre project is Shore, Tilbe (Till-bee), Perkins and Will Canada.
On the fundraising side of things, Co-Chair Sonya Mount says they have raised 4 million dollars to date, or 80 per cent of their 5 million dollar goal.
Mount says the community is really rallying behind the project, and she feels people are starting to realize the benefit of having a facility like this in the region.
