Tomorrow’s future is being celebrated today as part of Canada World Youth Week.
There are a number of events in Hanover this week to mark Youth Week.
There is an Open Mic Night at Coffee Culture on Wednesday night, a Drop in Night at the Deck on Thursday, two dances on Friday and a bus trip to Wonderland Halloween Haunt on Saturday.
Hanover Mayor Kathy Maskell says Hanover has a lot of wonderful young people that the town can take great pride in.
And as in any community — she says there are also some troubled youth than need our support — especially those who have substance abuse problems.
Maskell says since this is Youth Week — it’s a perfect time to reflect upon what we as a community can do for them.
There is a group in Hanover called ‘Youth Roots’ and Maskell says the town is fortunate to have a group that helps teens tackle issues — from drugs to bullying.
Maskell adds Hanover takes great pride in its ‘Youth Friendly’ status — a provincial recognition for the number of youth initiatives.
Youth Events Coordinator Cathy Waram says the most important part of Youth Week is showing young people that we appreciate and value them.
She say young people sometimes get a bad rap because of their age or the way they dress, when in reality — they are important members of society.
