Not surprisingly, raw milk was found at a rally for Michael Schmidt.
Supporters had gathered outside the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound on Thursday for a rally for the Durham area farmer — who has been in a battle for years, over the right to distribute raw milk to his “Cow-Share” clients.
Manager of Health Protection Chris Munn says they managed to get their hands on what looked like raw milk being handed out to the crowd.
Munn says preliminary tests confirm it is raw milk, and final confirmation is expected from the lab later today.
He says Schmidt could face a number of charges including contempt of court or an injunction to prevent him from continuing of offer the milk to clients or the general public.
Those charges will follow a review of the case by the Health unit and its’ lawyers this week.
Munn says there is a lot of misinformation on the internet that people are taking as being fact.
He says scientific information shows that the majority of the cases of illness caused by milk, is from raw milk.
The Health Unit maintains raw milk is harmful and Munn wants people to know they should only drink pasteurized milk.
