Students at Hanover Heights public school will not be able to take swim lessons this year.
Hanover Deputy Mayor Bob White is disappointed with a Hanover Heights decision not to participate in the school swimming lesson program this year.
White feels every child should have the opportunity to learn to swim and he says the Board of Education Swim Program is one of the best ways to do this.
White says there are far too many children drowning each year — and he points out there are many lakes, rivers and streams in our area.
Staff note many of the students that participate in the School Board Swim Program — especially those from outside of town — have little to no swim experience when they first begin.
Schools from as far away as Formosa, Brockton and West Grey send their students to the Hanover Aquatic Centre for swim lessons.
White is curious why the school decided to pull out of the program.
He says if its a funding problem for families — maybe the town could help.
White is urging Hanover Heights to reconsider its decision.
