Bruce and Grey Counties are examining their roles in the delivery of economic development services for the region.
Bruce County senior planner David Smith says a steering committee is currently consulting with municipalities, business associations, businesses and residents to determine the optimal role for the counties in delivering economic development services.
Smith says he likens the phase one of the study to a puzzle of economic development with several pieces of the puzzle still missing.
He says they’re asking many questions including about possible overlap of services which could mean inefficiencies in the system.
A consulting firm has been retained at a shared cost between the two counties of over 100 thousand dollars.
Bruce County Warden Mike Smith says they will conduct analysis of the alternative models of economic development delivery and recommend the county’s roles based on the community feedback.
Smith says he expects a further report by January.
