Voter apathy wasn’t really an issue in two of our local ridings in Ontario’s election.
Across the province, 49 per cent of the eligible voters marked ballots.
However, in Huron-Bruce — 60.1 per cent of those eligible to vote, did.
The second highest voter turnout locally was in Bruce Grey Owen Sound at 56.3 per cent.
In Simcoe Grey, the turnout was lower than the provincial average at 48.8 per cent.
Perth Wellington reported 49.9 per cent voter turnout, and Dufferin-Caledon 48.6 per cent.
Meanwhile, Bayshore Broadcasting News has heard a number of complaints from voters who had to travel long distances to vote — even though there was a polling station nearby.
Officials at Elections Ontario claim there is a limit to the number of voters per-polling station, and some were given a different site to vote at.
The Elections Ontario official says they had other options, including voting in an advance poll — or voting by mail if they didn’t want to travel.
