Huron Bruce has the “blues” today.
And Progressive Conservative Lisa Thompson couldn’t be happier.
Thompson pretty well held the lead over Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell from start to finish before the final announcement was made by campaign manager Ken Robertson, to loud cheers from the jammed Wingham Golf and Curling Club.
Thompson says the people in Huron Bruce asked for change and she’s prepared to give them that.
Calling the victory surreal and an honour, Thompson says she’s ready to get to work.
She acknowledges the Bayshore Broadcasting news poll that said green energy was the biggest concern of voters.
But she says the closure of the Walkerton Jail is still an issue and in Southampton, Kincardine, and Wingham, they want to get the renovations on their hospitals going.
Thompson says the most common thread in her door to door campaigning was the cost of living.
She says it’s time that Queen’s Park knows that rural Ontario matters.
