Council turned down going to a 100% user pay system in waste management.
The bag tag issue was one of seven recommendations from public works as the department attempted to make waste management self sufficient.
Councillor Candy Hewitt says giving out 26 free bag tags is the one small feel-good thing the municipality can do for its taxpayers.
Councillor Randy Roppel agreed with the move saying the taxpayers were hit with a 12.5% increase this past year and it would be insulting to make them pay for all their bag tags as well at $2.00 a shot.
The other big issue in the overall plan was the mothballing of the Ward 3 landfill site.
That too, was turned down by councillors.
Hewitt says considering the time to run the facility is so minimal, she wasn’t quite sure why the landfill that cost millions of dollar to establish, wouldn’t be used.
Roppel says the bylaw should be finalized October 19th.
All councillors agreed that the first item on the agenda would be to get out more education on recycling to save Kincardine’s landfill sites–the one in Ward 3 and the one in Ward 2 near Armow.
