The City of Owen Sound has plunged into the social media realm.
At 9 AM on Tuesday — the city officially launched its four social media profiles.
You can find official pages now on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and YouTube.
Mayor Deb Haswell says these are great tools to keep communication open between the city, council, and the community.
She cites Goderich as an example.
When the tornado ripped through the town this past summer, the United Way set up a Facebook page giving information about disaster relief, and allowing family and friends to be in touch with victims.
Haswell says that site received three thousand views within hours of it going up.
Haswell has also urged councillors to become more familiar with using social media, and setting up their own pages.
Staff have been working on the pages over the past six months to get ready for the launch, and will act as moderators for the information posted on the sites.
Haswell says you can trust the information will be accurate as it will be closely monitored.
