Pumpkinfest is hoping to break some records this year.
The 25th annual fall festival is taking place in Port Elgin on Saturday and Sunday.
Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Sally Hunt says they have all the old favourite attractions, including the Bruce Power weigh-off tent.
But this year, she says the word is among the growers that there could be some record-breaking weigh-ins.
She says there are also a number of new events and displays — such as the Hockey Hall of Fame memorabilia in the Port Elgin Plex.
Hunt says they are also bringing back helicopter rides, and there is a new agriculture tent.
There will also be a gala event Saturday night at the Plex.
At 6 PM there will be a kids party, with an age of majority dance starting at 9 PM featuring a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Hunt says they continue to grow the festival each year, and draw more people.
She says this year their social media campaign through Facebook has really taken off and it’s a great way to keep people updated.
Pumpkinfest has a big impact on the local economy as well — drawing in 5.4 million dollars.
Hunt says they will be doing surveys throughout the weekend, so you may be approached by a volunteer to answer some questions.
Pumpkinfest runs from 9 AM until 6 PM Saturday, and 10 AM until 4 PM Sunday.
