South Bruce Peninsula councillor Marilyn Bowman believes her integrity has been impugned.
It’s after a letter was sent to an Ontario cabinet minister in August.
Bowman rose on a point of order as the regular council meeting began Tuesday night in Wiarton.
She says there was a breach of policy after a letter, prepared by staff, was sent to Municipal Affairs Minister Rick Bartolucci in regards to some planned septic tank re-testing in South Bruce Peninsula..
Bowman says the problem is municipal policy states all such correspondence has to come before council and be approved before being sent out and this didn’t happen.
Mayor John Close explained when he and two others were going to Toronto to see the minister at a convention and the procedure was waived and he followed the procedure that he felt he was directed to do.
Mayor Close ruled that he followed procedures as he saw it directed to him by council in this instance.
Bowman continued the argument calling for a formal appeal of the mayor’s decision.
In a recorded vote, Bowman’s appeal process was turned down with all voting no, except herself and Councillor Janice Jackson and the issue ended there.
