The Georgian Bay Folk Society continues to search for a new Artistic Director for the Summerfolk Music and Craft Festival.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News reported earlier this week, Richard Knechtel will not be renewing his contract.
Folk Society President Ruth Parsons says she will really miss Knechtel, but he felt that after five years at the helm, he needed some rest.
Parsons says Knechtel was a big factor in the festival’s success, and a great person to work with.
She says as his artistic vision evolved, he made an atmosphere that not only the audience loved, but that performers loved as well.
Parsons adds Knechtel is parting on good terms, and even though he didn’t renew his contract, he’s still helping out with grant reporting.
She says his will be big shoes to fill, but she’s also not worried about the planning for next summer’s festival.
Parsons says they have an experienced volunteer base and she’s confident they’ll be able to work with a new Artistic Director to keep the ball rolling.
She says the Folk Society is taking applications for the position until the end of October.
She’s hoping to find someone who has experience in coordinating festivals, and with connections to the folk music world.
