Only two dogs are left at the Southampton Pet Hospital from the 24 that were seized from a home in Oliphant this past August.
Vet Technician Cheryl Reaume says she’s not surprised 23 dogs were adopted so quickly, as the Shih-Tzu breed is popular.
She says only one has been returned, because it wasn’t getting along with a dog already in the owner’s home.
Reaume says the male dog does need a bit of medical attention as he has an older eye ulcer that they’ve been treating.
But she says they’d like to see him neutered before he goes to a new home.
There is only one dog that is not ready for adoption, and that’s because she requires some major surgery.
Reaume says the dog was probably born with a congenital deformity of her knee-cap, which makes her three-legged.
The reconstructive surgery is quite pricey, but Doctor Jeff Berry has agreed to do it for 700 dollars — which is a much lower cost.
Reaume says they’re hoping the community will help them raise that money.
In all, 48 dogs were seized from a home on Old Red Bay Road after a neighbour complained about the noise and smell.
Five dogs were sent to the Owen Sound Animal Shelter and adopted on the first day.
Eighteen other dogs and puppies are at the Grey-Bruce Animal Shelter until they are ready for adoption on October 10th.
