Hanover is celebrating an important milestone — 30 years of blue boxing.
Mayor Kathi Maskell notes Hanover was one of the few municipalities to get on board with the recycling program when it first began in 1981.
She credits the council of the day for having the vision and foresight to see the merit in the program.
Maskell feels the recycling program has grown to the point where Hanover residents now have more refuse going into the blue box than into the garbage can.
She hopes Hanover will be able to expand its program and accept more materials.
Maskell even admits it may be time to start thinking about green bins.
Maskell notes many other communities offer green bin services and compost collection.
