Flu shots for Grey Bruce residents will be ready by the start of October.
25 per cent of the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s flu vaccine will be delivered by the end of this week.
Sarah Ellis — the Program Manager of Vaccine Preventable Diseases — says residents should start booking their flu shots for the start of October.
Ellis says their goal is to get that 25 per cent of vaccine out to physicians and long-term care as soon as possible.
Ellis says fewer than 50 per cent of local hospital workers were immunized last year, so the Health Unit’s emphasis this year is on getting Health Care workers vaccinated.
She add’s that Research shows patients who’s healthcare workers receive influenza vaccine are 20 to 40 per cent less likely to die during the flu season, then those who are cared for by un-vaccinated workers.
The first free Health Unit clinic is being held at Public Health in Owen Sound on October 28th from 9 AM to 3 PM.
