The trial of a Wingham-area man finally got underway in London.
Ron Ward is charged with second degree murder in the death of 22 year old Scott Hayes in February 2010.
On Wednesday — a jury heard that a conflict between Ron Ward, his brother Chris and Scott Hayes goes back to 2006 because of a previous relationship between Chris and Hayes’ girlfriend.
Chris Ward drove the girlfriend home after a stag and doe in Wingham in January of 2010 and Hayes asked her to let him know if Chris tried to contact her again.
The girlfriend says Chris wanted to apologize to Hayes, but contacted Ron Ward as well just in case a fight broke out.
Two teenagers were in the car with Ron when he came into Wingham on February 12th and will take the stand today.
After Hayes was struck by a car and pushed up against a brick wall, the Wards and the two teenagers didn’t call for help and left the scene.
Ron Ward has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder charges.
The trial continues today.
