Provincial candidates in the Bruce Grey Owen Sound riding reached out to the student vote Wednesday at OSCVI .
At the debate — students were given a chance to meet and ask questions of the seven candidates running for election this Fall.
One student interested in attending University next year for political science asked about each candidates plans to reduce post secondary education costs.
Colby said she was impressed with the Liberals promise to cut post-secondary tuition rates by 30 per cent for lower- and middle-class families, who earn less than 160 thousand dollars a year.
The OSCVI senior says she’s in that bracket and likes the plan, but is also intrigued by what NDP Candidate Paul Johnstone said.
Johnstone’s NDP’s are planning to freeze tuition fees for college, undergraduate, and graduate university students over the next four years and will eliminate the interest on the provincial portion of student loans.
Another student asked about Ontario’s deficit and how each candidate planned to address the issue if elected.
That student was most impressed with Independent Candidate Shane Jolley’s honesty.
Jolley said getting the deficit under control and bringing down spending while raising needed revenues in a contracting world economy, is going to be extremely difficult.
He said the big party’s need to honest with Ontarians’.
Liberal candidate Kevin Eccles, PC candidate Bill Walker, Green Party candidate Don Marshall, Family Coalition Party candidate Joel Kidd and Libertarian candidate Jay Miller were also at the debate.
