This is Legion Week — a good week for you to stop and reflect upon the role legions play in our community.
Hanover Legion President Wanda Goodyear says the Legion is opening its doors wide this week to the public.
She encourages the public to come out and see what the Legion is all about.
Goodyear adds new members are always welcomed — noting that you don’t have to be a veteran or be related to one to join.
2011 saw the loss of 14 Hanover Legion members.
Goodyear says it would be nice to have some fresh new faces.
Among the new members this year includes Bosnia Veteran and Hanover Police Constable Robin Paige.
He says joining the Legion was a logical choice for him.
Paige says the Legion not only helps keep our veteran’s memory alive — but it also provide support to veterans, their families and other residents in the community.
Hanover’s Legion boasts a membership of 500 people — 150 of whom are active members.
Goodyear points out the Hanover legion is active in the community through different groups.
The Hanover Legion has been in place for over 80 years.
